Diana Brixner, RPh, PhD
Dr. Diana Brixner is a Professor, Dept. of Pharmacotherapy, and founder of the Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center (PORC) at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. She holds two adjunct positions in the School of Medicine in the Dept. of Population Health Sciences and the Dept. of Pediatrics,
Division of Clinical Pharmacology. She is a member of the Huntsman Cancer Institute Cancer Control and Population Sciences and the Center for Genomic Medicine. Prior to her academic appointment in 2002, she worked in both the biotech (NeoRx) and pharmaceutical (SmithKline Beecham, Novartis) industries focused on value assessment of their technologies in the early years of the field. Dr. Brixner was a past president of both the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) and International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). She was recently a one-year Scholar-in-Residence for the Academy of Managed
Care Pharmacy. She serves on the scientific advisory board of Lumanity and is also a member of the board of the International Market Access Society.
Dr. Brixner's research focus is on the design, conduct, and communication of outcomes research studies and global market access to demonstrate the value of pharmaceutical and related therapies from the
perspective of the private and public payer. Much of her work is focused on oncology and personalized medicines. She has published over 190 articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored three book chapters, has
one issued patent, and has been an invited speaker at a variety of national and international professional metings.
Joseph Biskupiak, PhD, MBA
Dr. Joe Biskupiak has been with the University of Utah College of Pharmacy since 2002, serving as Research Professor, Director of the Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center and currently Professor Emeritus. Dr. Biskupiak’s research focuses on the design, conduct, training and communication of health
economics and outcomes research studies to demonstrate the value of medical technologies. Dr. Biskupiak has worked extensively with large healthcare databases including medical and pharmacy claims databases and electronic health record databases.
Gary Oderda, PharmD, MPH
Dr. Gary Oderda has been with the University of Utah since 1991, serving as Professor, Chairman of the Dept. of Pharmacy Practice, and now Professor Emeritus. In 1999, Dr. Oderda completed a sabbatical as Visiting Professor in the Dept. of Health Care Management at Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. in East
Hanover, NJ, working on outcomes research and disease management projects. He worked with Drs. Brixner and Biskupiak to develop the Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center at the College of Pharmacy and served as a Director until 2016. He manages and works on projects in areas including training, advisory
boards, dossiers, publications, and analysis.
Dr. Oderda has worked with Medicaid in a variety of capacities. He has consulted with and managed contracts with Utah Medicaid to help them administer their drug program. These contracts included preparation of criteria sets for the Utah Medicaid DUR program and operation of the Drug Regimen Review
Center (DRRC), used to make recommendations to prescribers to optimize therapy. He has done a number of
studies using Medicaid data. At a national level, Dr. Oderda served as a member of a Technical Advisory Committee to CMS on quality measures in Medicare Part D and as a member of an FDA Advisory panel.
Recent research projects have focused on pain and oncology.
